The 1st Conference on Quantum Sciences and Technology (ConQuest 2022)

Research Center for Quantum Physics, National Research and Innovation Agency of Indonesia (BRIN), is organizing the first international Conference on Quantum Sciences and Technology (ConQuest 2022) in Indonesia. ConQuest 2022 is a unique platform for experienced researchers as well as bright young minds to present new insights and exchange cutting-edge ideas on the fundamental sciences and applications of all quantum-based technologies. ConQuest 2022 will be held virtually through Zoom meetings on November 22-24, 2022. The main conference events are within the first two days, while the last day will be dedicated to a workshop on quantum simulation software (Qiskit and QuTiP).

Conference Track

This conference covers, but is not limited to, the following topics:
  • Foundations of quantum mechanics (entanglement, interpretations, nonlocality, etc.)
  • Quantum matter and fundamental interactions (including relevant explorative directions bridging quantum sciences and technology with high-energy physics, nuclear physics, gravity & cosmology)
  • Quantum/classical/semiclassical simulation, computation, algorithms, and software (e.g., first-principles calculations, molecular dynamics, machine learning tools, etc.)
  • Quantum information and communication (including quantum cryptography)
  • Quantum optics and photonics (including various spectroscopy techniques and their applications)
  • Quantum transport and dynamics (e.g., quantum thermodynamics, spintronics, valleytronics, etc.)
  • Quantum metrology and sensing technology
  • Emerging areas involving quantum sciences and technology (e.g., computational biology, computational chemistry, networks and complex systems, etc.)

Invited Speakers

Prof. Andriyan Bayu Suksmono received a Ph.D. degree in engineering from The University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan, in 2002. He has been a Full Professor at the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Indonesia since 2009. His main research interests include signal processing, imaging, and quantum computing. He established the first quantum technology lab at ITB and probably also the first in Indonesia. Prof. Suksmono is currently a Professional Member of The Association for Computing Machinery. His work in quantum algorithms for finding the Hadamard matrix was included in the Nature’s Scientific Report Top 100 in Physics 2020 and is listed in the Quantum Algorithm Zoo.

Thiansin Liamsuwan, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor and Program Director of the Ph.D. program in Medical Physics and Medical Engineering, Princess Srisavangavadhana College of Medicine, Chulabhorn Royal Academy, Thailand. Her research interests are in radiation physics, radiation and neutron dosimetry, microdosimetry, radiation therapy & protection, and Monte Carlo simulation & track structure.

Fumiyuki Ishii is a Full Professor at the Nanomaterials Research Institute, Kanazawa University, Japan. He is now working on various topics of spintronics and thermoelectric energy conversion. He is doing theoretical design of artificial functional materials to find new physical phenomena based on the specific electronic states.

Dr. Grelli is a researcher at the Institute of Subatomic Physics, Utrecht University, the Netherlands, and a member of the ALICE Collaboration. He is the Dutch project leader of the ALICE tracker upgrade. His current project is coordinating the Dutch efforts toward the proposal of a new detector for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) run V. The focus of his research is the study of heavy-quarks in-medium energy loss and hadronization.

Dr. Nemoto is currently a professor in the Principles of Informatics Research Division at the National Institute of Informatics (NII), Japan. She serves as director of the Global Research Center for Quantum Information Science at the NII. Dr. Nemoto is also a research team leader in the commissioned research area of quantum repeater technology for Project UQCC (Updating Quantum Cryptography and Communications). Her current research interests include architectures for distributed quantum computation, quantum communication, quantum metrology system, quantum device designs, quantum networks, quantum computer languages & compilation, and hybrid & complex quantum systems.

Prof. Kwek Leong Chuan is a principal investigator at the Center for Quantum Technologies, National University of Singapore, and the Deputy Director of the Institute of Advanced Studies at Nanyang Technological University. His research group is interested in various issues related to entanglement ranging from distributed quantum computation to measurement-based quantum computation to quantum metrology and hybrid quantum systems.

Dr. Nguyen Tuan Hung is an Assistant Professor at the Frontier Research Institute for Interdisciplinary Sciences, Tohoku University, Japan. He is an active member of The Fullerenes, Nanotubes and Graphene Research Society. His research group focuses on theory and simulation of fundamental energy conversion and storage, with applications to thermoelectricity, artificial muscles, and others. Besides that, he is also working on electronic structures based on tight-binding method, first-principles calculations based on density functional theory (DFT), ab initio molecular dynamics, electron-phonon interaction, and machine learning techniques.

Dr. Izyan Hazwani Hashim obtained her Ph.D.  in Nuclear & Particle Physics at Osaka University. She is the current coordinator for Industrial Physics Undergraduate Programme, Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. She is the Executive Board member of Coherent Muon to Electron Transition (COMET) and Ordinary Muon Capture for Double Beta Decay (OMC4DBD) experiments, which represent Malaysia‘s contribution in international level.  She has more than 10 years’ experience in muon facilities at Japan and Switzerland. She is the Section Editor of Academy of Science (ASM) Science Journal and have experience in reviewing various  International Journal in her field of expertise. Her research encompasses muon capture reaction on nuclei relevant for double beta decay nuclear matrix element and charge lepton flavor violation study.

Registration

There are three categories of participation in ConQuest 2022:
  1. Presentations with papers for general participants (Registration Fee: IDR 2,500,000, already including publication cost and workshop fee)
  2. Presentations with papers for student participants (Registration Fee: IDR 2,250,000, already including publication cost and workshop fee)
  3. Presentations without papers for general/student participants (Registration Fee: IDR 250,000, already including workshop fee, limited seat, only for selected participants!)
The registration along with abstract submission can be done through the following Google Forms: https://bit.ly/register-conquest2022 The first deadline for the registration (and abstract submission) is July 15, July 29, 2022. The accepted abstract and payment method will be communicated through the organizer’s official email (@brin.go.id address). Therefore, please write your email correctly in the registration form. Be aware also that sometimes our mail can be regarded as SPAM in your mailbox.    

Paper Submission

Besides the registration through the conference’s Google Forms, every first author or corresponding author who would like to submit a paper to ConQuest 2022 must create an account in the EasyChair conference management system. The paper submission for ConQuest 2022 is open until the full submission deadline on August 26, 2022 September 26, 2022.
