#The Journey: More Than a Decade of Aerospace Innovation
Born in 2013 under the stewardship of the Indonesian National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN), the International Seminar on Aerospace Science and Technology (ISAST) began as a visionary gathering. It was established to bring together a passionate community of regional researchers, engineers, and aerospace enthusiasts. Over the past decade, ISAST has evolved from a humble scientific meeting into a cornerstone international forum for the aerospace sector in Southeast Asia and beyond.
Every edition of ISAST has left a definitive footprint on the map of aerospace advancement. From the scenic shores of Lombok in 2016—where the community rallied around the early national blueprints of the N219 aircraft—to navigating the unprecedented disruptions of the 2020 global pandemic by seamlessly shifting to virtual horizons, ISAST has proven its resilience. The ecosystem did not merely survive; it expanded.
#A Thriving and Evolving Ecosystem
Recent years have marked a profound transformation for ISAST. With the structural evolution of Indonesia’s research landscape, the seminar successfully transitioned into the robust ecosystem of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), managed under the Research Organization for Aeronautics and Space (ORPA).
Throughout this journey, ISAST has consistently broken new ground by fostering deep academic alliances, such as the prestigious joint SAWAE-ISAST 2025 co-hosted with Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). Year after year, our publication legacy has grown stronger, anchored by trusted global indexes including AIP Publishing, IOP Science, and Springer Proceedings in Physics.
What truly sets ISAST apart is its shifting focus from isolated technical discussions to addressing existential global challenges. We have watched our community mature: from tackling the technicalities of Industrial Era 4.0, to mobilizing aerospace data for climate solutions in 2024, and now, scaling new heights in 2026.
#ISAST 2026: Aerospace for Humanity
As we gather for the 12th edition at the Galeri Inovasi dan Kreativitas (GIK) Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta, ISAST 2026 represents the culmination of our collective journey. Under the central theme “Aerospace for Humanity,” this year’s seminar bridges the gap between sophisticated space technology and its ultimate purpose: serving and safeguarding human life on Earth.
Today, ISAST is no longer just a seminar. It is a living, breathing international network of minds dedicated to pushing the boundaries of flight, space, and technology for the greater good of society. We invite you to become a part of our continuing history.

Attending ISAST 2026 means advancing your research and collaborations in one of Asia’s most inspiring and culturally significant cities. ISAST 2026 is not only a scientific event, but also an experience that connects intellect with humanity, ancient wisdom with modern science, and global research with local impact.
🔬 Scientific Excellence & Global Publication
ISAST 2026 is the 12th edition of a prestigious peer-reviewed international forum. Accepted and presented papers will be considered for publication in Scopus-indexed Conference Proceedings and the Indonesian Journal of Aerospace (IJOA, SINTA 2), ensuring your research reaches the global scientific community. With distinguished keynote and invited speakers from leading aerospace institutions across Asia, Europe, and beyond, ISAST 2026 is a rare opportunity for high-level scientific exchange.
🏨 A Venue at the Heart of Javanese Culture
ISAST 2026 is hosted at The Alana Hotel & Conference Center Malioboro (Jl. Mayjend Sutoyo No. 52, Yogyakarta), a modern 4-star conference hotel in the cultural heartland of Yogyakarta, within walking distance of iconic landmarks: 10 minutes to the Sultan’s Palace (Kraton), 5 minutes to Alun-alun Kidul, 10 minutes to Tamansari Water Castle, and a short drive to the legendary Jalan Malioboro. The hotel’s full conference facilities with multiple breakout rooms, modern audiovisual systems, and dedicated event services, create the ideal environment for both formal scientific sessions and informal collaborations that often prove just as transformative.
🌟 Jalan Malioboro & the Cosmological Axis
Jalan Malioboro, a short drive from the venue, is Yogyakarta’s most iconic avenue and the beating heart of Javanese cultural life. What makes it extraordinary is its structural position within the Cosmological Axis of Yogyakarta (Sumbu Filosofi), inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage property. This precise 6-km physical urban axis runs north-south, connecting the monument of Panggung Krapyak, the Sultan’s Kraton Palace, and the Tugu Pal Putih in a single line representing the profound Javanese philosophy of the human cycle of life (Sangkan Paraning Dumadi). On a grander landscape scale, this built alignment forms a sacred imaginary axis that extends further north to the majestic Mount Merapi volcano and south to the Indian Ocean, beautifully unifying nature, cosmos, and human civilization. Strolling its length, between batik workshops and the aroma of street food, you walk through centuries of living history. The historic Pasar Beringharjo market, the Dutch colonial Benteng Vredeburg fortress-museum, and the open ceremonies of the Kraton are all part of the living cultural landscape that greets ISAST participants.
🏛️ Two UNESCO World Heritage Temple Complexes
Yogyakarta places attendees within reach of two of Asia’s greatest architectural achievements. Borobudur, the world’s largest Buddhist temple, built in the 9th century and featuring 2,672 relief panels and 72 stupas, is approximately one hour’s drive west. Prambanan, Indonesia’s grandest Hindu temple complex, also from the 9th century, is 20 minutes to the east, with an evening Ramayana Ballet performed against its illuminated spires. These are experiences that transform a conference trip into a journey.
🌋 Yogyakarta’s Resilience — the City that Knows Survival
In 2010, Mount Merapi’s catastrophic eruption displaced hundreds of thousands. Yogyakarta did not collapse; it was organized, it adapted, and it rebuilt. The same city that has been shaped by volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and colonial occupation has also produced generations of artists, scholars, and innovators. There is a quiet strength in Yogyakarta that resonates deeply with the theme of ISAST 2026. When we discuss disaster resilience from the conference halls of this city, we are not speaking abstractly, we are speaking in a place that lives this reality every day.
✈️ Accessibility & Affordability
Yogyakarta is well-served by Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA), with direct connections from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and major Indonesian cities. The Railink airport express train connects YIA to the city center in approximately 40 minutes. Daily costs in Yogyakarta remain among the most affordable for any international conference destination, making extended stays genuinely attractive. Accommodation options range from boutique guesthouses to business hotels within walking distance of the conference venue.
🚌 Day 3 — Cultural Heritage Excursion
On October 8th, participants are invited to join a curated Yogyakarta Heritage Excursion, organized by a trusted local travel agent in Yogyakarta. Prospective destinations include Borobudur, Prambanan, the Kraton, and Jalan Malioboro. Registration is available separately through the organizing committee. This optional excursion is the ideal way to close an intellectually rich conference with lasting memories.
“On behalf of the organizing committee, it is our distinct privilege and great pleasure to welcome you to the 12th International Seminar on Aerospace Science and Technology (ISAST 2026). This year, our premier seminar will be held in a hybrid format from October 6th to 8th, 2026, physically hosted at the Galeri Inovasi dan Kreativitas (GIK) Universitas Gadjah Mada in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and virtually accessible worldwide via Zoom.
