National Research and Innovation Agency of Indonesia (BRIN) and RIKEN Nishina Center are organizing the 1st Conference of Accelerator-Based Sciences and Technology (CAST 2024) and Material Research Collaboration Forum in KST BJ Habibie, Serpong, Indonesia. The goals of the conference and forum are to foster collaboration between the RIKEN Nishina Center and the Indonesian scientific community, exchange scientific information and funding, and educate students and early researchers. These events which will be held on 19-22 February 2024 will also be a unique platform to present new insights and exchange cutting-edge ideas in the field of accelerator-based sciences and material sciences and technologies.
During 4 days of the events, there will be many opportunities to develop a multi-country network in material science to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the next generation.
The main events consist of:

Please register your participation in the conference. The conference covers, but is not limited to the following topics:
The deadline for the abstract submission Participant (non-speaker) is January 20th 2024 February 3rd, 2024. Please register and submit the abstract to this link. Please note that students are also welcomed to give a talk in the conference. There will be no proceeding.
Are you currently studying for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physics, Chemistry, or Engineering? Are you a PhD student or a young researcher with an interest in material science? If so, this could be the opportunity for you: apply now for School on Advanced Spectroscopy for Material Sciences. Over a period of 3 days (19 – 21 February 2024), you will attend a series of lectures specially prepared for you where experts and scientists share their knowledge about a wide range of topics in the fields of material sciences and technology:
The participant will also attend the main conference and Lab. visit. There will also be a lecture about preparing manuscripts for publication. The minimum requirement for attending the school is undergraduate students who have completed 6 semesters by February 2024.
The registration for the school is closed by January 20th 2024 February 3rd, 2024. Please register via this link.
List of Lecturers for the School:
All student participants are encouraged to participate in the poster session of this seminar. There will be awards (Prizes + winner certificate) for three of the best posters. However, due to the limited space of the poster hall, students must send the abstract and poster information through this link. The accepted abstract and the poster requirement will be notified via e-mail.

On the fourth day of the conference, we will organize a lab visit to the Siwabessy Nuclear Reactor, Neutron-scattering laboratory and Advanced Material Lab. and Characterization facilities (TEM, XPS, NMR, Battery Lab). Participants who want to attend Lab. Visit must register before January 6th ,2024 in this link.
As a research and multipurpose reactor, Siwabessy plays a significant role in radioisotope production, nuclear material science, reactor safety, waste treatment, and radio-metallurgy in Indonesia.
Inaugurated in 1987, the reactor achieved 30 MW of maximum power and currently is operating at 15 MW and continues to serve the Nuclear research and industry in Indonesia.
BRIN’s Neutron Scattering Laboratory (BNSL) is the only neutron scattering facility in the Southeast Asia. Seven instruments were installed in BNSL to observe material from atomic level to macro-scale: inelastic neutron scattering spectrometers, small angle neutron scattering spectrometer, high-resolution small angle neutron scattering spectrometer, residual stress diffractometers, four circle/texture diffractometer, high-resolution powder diffractometer, neutron activation analysis, and neutron imaging. In the year of 2015 to the present, Neutron imaging has been acknowledged by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as the collaborating center of Nondestructive Investigation (CC-NDI) in Southeast Asia.
There is one registration fee for all conference programs (Conference, school, poster session, Lab, Visit). This fee covers lunch as well as snacks and drinks during coffee breaks. A limited number of registration fee waivers all available for students. Please contact the organizer if you need the waiver.
There is also a limited number of scholarship for the school on advanced spectroscopy for material science. This scholarship will cover the lodging fee in Wisma Puspiptek. Students can apply for the scholarship in the school registration form.
The registration fee can be paid on desk during the first day of the conference/school or transfer (Payment via transfer will be open on December 10th, 2023)
