About

Advanced materials have witnessed a significant surge in demand across research, development, and practical applications. The International Symposium on Functional Materials (ISFM) is a biennial conference that provides a dynamic platform for sharing the latest innovations, breakthroughs, and emerging trends in multidisciplinary research on functional materials. The symposium emphasizes the integration of fundamental science with engineering applications and the commercialization of advanced materials.

ISFM brings together researchers, practitioners, and industry experts to foster collaboration and exchange ideas. Key topics include cutting-edge developments in material synthesis, characterization, and their real-world applications.

Following the successful ISFM 2024 held at Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan, the upcoming ISFM 2026 will take place in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, from August 4 to 7, 2026. As one of the historic royal capitals of Central Java, Yogyakarta boasts a rich cultural heritage shaped by royal legacy, colonial history, and vibrant Javanese traditions—making it an inspiring backdrop for this global scientific gathering.

Welcoming Remarks

On behalf of the organizing committee, it is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 11th International Symposium on Functional Materials (ISFM 2026), to be held from August 4th to 7th, 2026, in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Functional materials research continues to draw significant global interest due to its potential in developing nanostructured systems and its wide range of technological applications. Since its inception in 2005, the ISFM series has grown into a leading international forum, with successful editions held in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia, 2005), Hangzhou (China, 2007), Jinju (Korea, 2009), Sendai (Japan, 2011), Perth (Australia, 2012), Singapore (2014), Changchun (China, 2016), Aachen (Germany, 2018), Hwaseong (Korea, 2021, Hybrid), and most recently, Sendai (Japan, 2024).

Building on the legacy of ISFM 2024, the ISFM 2026 symposium will continue to highlight cutting-edge research and development in key areas such as environmental materials, electronic materials, energy materials, biomedical materials, and other related functional materials. This event aims to bring together leading scientists, engineers, and researchers from around the world to share innovations, explore interdisciplinary collaborations, and bridge the gap between fundamental science, engineering applications, and commercial viability.

We are confident that your participation and contributions will enrich the scientific discussions and inspire future advancements. We also hope you will enjoy the vibrant culture, historical richness, and warm hospitality of Yogyakarta, one of Central Java’s royal capitals.

We look forward to welcoming you to ISFM 2026!

📍 Venue Information – ISFM 2026

We are pleased to announce that the 11th International Symposium on Functional Materials (ISFM 2026) will be held at the prestigious:

Eastparc Hotel Yogyakarta
Jl. Laksda Adisucipto KM 6.5 No. 1, Ngentak, Caturtunggal, Depok 55281, D.I. Yogyakarta, Indonesia
https://www.eastparchotel.com

Conveniently located along one of Yogyakarta’s main thoroughfares, Eastparc Hotel is just minutes away from shopping centers, universities, and key cultural attractions. It is also strategically situated between the city center and Adisucipto Airport (JOG), making it highly accessible for both international and domestic participants.

This five-star hotel offers modern conference facilities, luxurious accommodations, a large outdoor pool, a mini waterpark, fitness center, restaurants, and concierge services. The hotel also provides airport shuttle options, making it a convenient and comfortable choice for conference attendees.

✈️ Access to Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta is served by two airports:

1. Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) – Kulon Progo, ~45 km from city center

This is the main international gateway to Yogyakarta and serves numerous international and domestic flights, including direct connections to major hubs such as Jakarta, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bali, and Surabaya.

Transportation Options from YIA to Eastparc Hotel:

  • Airport Rail Link (YIA Railink)
The fastest public transport option. The airport train departs directly from YIA to Yogyakarta Tugu Station in approximately 40 minutes. From there, you can reach Eastparc Hotel in about 15–20 minutes by taxi or ride-hailing services.

  • Airport Shuttle Buses (DAMRI / SatelQu / Joglosemar)
These reliable buses offer transfers from YIA to various city points, including hotels and tourist areas. You can get off near the hotel or at a central hub and continue the journey by taxi or app-based transport (Grab, Gojek). Total travel time is around 60–75 minutes.

  • Private Car / Ride-Hailing (Grab, Gojek)
Convenient and direct. Rides from YIA to Eastparc Hotel typically take 45–60 minutes, depending on traffic. Prices range from IDR 200,000 to 300,000. Private shuttle bookings through travel platforms like Jayride or Traveloka are also available.

2. Adisucipto International Airport (JOG) – Within the city, ~3 km from venue

Although it now serves limited flights, Adisucipto Airport is still active for domestic routes from Jakarta, Bali, and Surabaya. It’s located only 5–10 minutes from Eastparc Hotel.

Transportation Options from JOG:

  • Taxi or Ride-Hailing Services
The most direct method; travel time is less than 10 minutes. Fares range from IDR 35,000 to 50,000.

  • Trans Jogja Bus System (Route 1B or 5B)
A reliable, affordable public option. Buses stop close to Eastparc Hotel, operating from early morning to evening. Fare is a flat rate of IDR 3,500 (~USD 0.25).

🚉 Train Access: Jakarta (Gambir) → Yogyakarta (Tugu)

For participants flying into Jakarta who prefer a land-based route, the train from Gambir Station (Jakarta) to Yogyakarta Tugu Station presents a reliable and comfortable option. The journey spans approximately 6 hours, with several departures throughout the day.

Options include Economy, Executive, and the premium Luxury Class (e.g., Taksaka Luxury), offering superior comfort, onboard meals, entertainment, and spacious seating.

Daytime departures offer scenic views of Java’s verdant countryside, while evening and night trains suit those aiming to travel overnight. We recommend arriving at Gambir Station at least 30 minutes before departure, especially if collecting tickets or upgrading.

Once in Yogyakarta, the Eastparc Hotel—conference venue—is easily accessible by taxi or Trans Jogja bus from Tugu Station.

🚕 Local Transportation in Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta is a compact and well-connected city. During your stay, you can easily navigate using:
